Wow ! I just left Pensacola, Fl. Anyways let me fill you in on how it works.
You will get there late at night or in the afternoon.
You will then be considered an indoc, you will be an indoc for 2 weeks.
After that you will start classes.
Although there is a chance you starting classes could be delayed,
for medical reasons mainly. In that case you will be put on barracks
support until you are able to class up, this may take weeks or months.
All barracks support does is clean all day, or you could get a special billet
and you will get to do other stuff.
Anyways back to the training. At first you are either 5900 or 6400,
Anyways back to the training. At first you are either 5900 or 6400,
your MOS number you have right now doesn't matter.
When you first start out you will be AWAT,
you can finish these classes in a week or it may take you 2 weeks,
its up to you and how hard you work. After AWAT you class up ATT,
you either go to school during the day or you are mids
which means you go to class at night.
ATT normally takes about 2 months.
After you finish that you strand up,
you receive I, O, or AE. AE is 8 weeks long,
O is 10, and I is about 4 months.
If you get I strand they may even train you for maintenance air traffic control,
which means you could be there even longer!
After you graduate from you strand you find out what aircraft you will be working on,
After you graduate from you strand you find out what aircraft you will be working on,
fixed wing or rotar, I think rotar goes to cherry point, nc and fixed goes to camp pendalton, CA,
but I could have that backwards. Anyways that's where you C school is.
Life at pensacola is structured but laid back compared to boot camp and MCT.
You will have one duty night a weekend and one duty weekend a month.
You will get free time, and they do give out over night librety on weekends, sometimes, not all the time.
Weekdays your curfew will be 2145, when you are indoc you can't go off base
and you can't wear civilian attire. After 2 weeks there you can wear civilian attire and go off base,
but your curfew is still 2145 unless you get overnight liberty.
After a month and a half there you will get weekend curfew of 2345.
And they also just started this new liberty deal were if you have a 285 PFT
and a 80% class average or a 225 PFT and a 90% class average
you can stay out all weekend until 2145 sunday night.
Good deal! Anyways with going to see your family,
you will really only be able to make that trip if you get special liberty,
and you will find out about all of that when you get there.
Have fun pensacola is a great base, be sure you check out this place called portside,
eh you'll find out when you get there. Good times!
Avionics is a very good school.
I went to AV'A' school when it was atNAS Millington, TN. Yes,
it is at NAS Pensacola now.
I don't think you'll be able to go as far as GA on a normal weekend.
Forget about wetting your wick long enough to be a Marine
that you will be proud of when you look back in 40 years.
You are very lucky to get this school and you are, obviously,
intelligent or you wouldn't have gotten it.
You can visit your family on long weekends and after you graduate.
