Mos O strand or I strand?

by 프시케 psyche 2014. 3. 26.

MOS descriptions on avionics ostrand,

istrand, and AE in the Marine Corps?

Im currently a PFC in Pensacola, FL and im currently enrolled in ATT.
im one of the top students in my class, and the top 3 get to choose which strand they want.
im basically stuck between which to choose if i get the opportunity to..
.im leaning toward istrand rather than ostrand for multiple reasons,
i think it may just suit me better but im wondering about AE
and what your job/amount of deployment will be in that.

if you could give me a detailed description on either of the strands,

AE, or all three that'd be great, thank you..

First off Semper Fi Marine. I got out back in 05 and I went through pensacola as well back in 00.

I was a 6316- KC-130 Com/Nav tech. I loved the O-strand side because

you weren't chained to a soldering iron or a bench for your enlistment.

You'll get stuck in big white vans if you go I-strand and everybody in the field cusses at you

and supply when there is a parts problem lol.

I stepped on every continent except Antarctica and South America while I was in.

The good thing about c-130's is that they are too big to land on a boat

so you don't have to do any floats.

You get to actually see the world when you travel and it's a pretty small knit group in the KC-130 community.

The only bases you can end up on are Cherry Point NC, Miramar CA,

New York-reserve base, NAS JRB Ft. Worth-reserve base,

and MCAF Futenma Okinawa. I think okinawa is getting ready to get rid of Futenma though

so they'll move that base somewhere else in the near future.

I got out and went to work for L-3 communications Integrated systems

right out the corps and worked on the same planes

and base as I did in the corps.

You can pretty much get any install/tech job for commercial liners

when you get out if you go O-strand.

I knew a few I-stranders but not enough to give you an accurate assessment of their experience.

I'm glad I was in O-strand because the tempo is fast

and you have to get planes up all the time

so you're not sitting around all day bored out of your mind.

Well let me know if I can help you out any more. Goodluck
